Breakfast
If your stay in the Brisbane CBD (or hopped of a train in the city from the suburbs) head towards The Story Bridge and walk across to Kangaroo Point, the views across the bridge are fantastic either side
I highly recommend forgoing a sit-down breakfast for the phenomenal croissants at Christian Jacques Bakery, located just under the Story Bridge. These are not your run of the mill croissants, they are honestly next level, I discovered the bakery by chance and joined the 10 person queue as it seemed to be the obvious thing to do, 5 minutes later I am leaving with 5 different croissants, a mix of sweet and savoury pure magic. Grab a coffee next door and take your breakfast down the road to Captain Burke Park that overlooks the river.
Morning
Walk west along the river along the footpath, underneath the Kangaroo Point cliffs all the way to South Bank (it's just over 3kms to the heart of Streets Beach in South Bank, so thank goodness you've had your coffee!) You'll pass right by the Queensland Maritime Museum, so if that's more your jam stop and have a visit. South Bank is well worth the walk, an artificial beach on the edge of the river, you will feel like you have walked straight into a tropical resort. There are plenty of bathrooms and changing facilities so I highly recommend bringing bathers. Swim in the main beach where you can feel the sand between your toes or if you came to a river city to specifically avoid sand there is a sand free pool too.
If your not up for swimming, there are plenty of lush, shady gardens to stroll through as well as a Saturday market to enjoy.
Lunch
Clocking up close to 10,000 steps already, I'm sure your starving! There are plenty of options to pick from, from cafes, Subway, Grill'd to Mexican, Italian and Middle Eastern restaurants. If you want to go where the in crowd kids eat, walk a little further to Fish Land which has some amazing restaurants in a huge variety of cuisines.
Afternoon
Depending on how much energy you still have you have an optional add on, if you've made it to Fish Lane then you have made it to Brisbane's Arts precinct, well done! All within about 100 meters of each other you will find; The Queensland Museum (free), Gallery of Modern Art (free), Queensland Art Gallery (free) and the State Library of Queensland (free)! All offer fantastic exhibits as well as a beautiful air-conditioned space to walk around.
Next, walk across the newly built Neville Bonner Bridge straight up to the Sky Deck, grab a coffee or something stronger at Cicada Blu as you enjoy spectacular views of the river.
Continue your afternoon walk (or grab a lime scooter) through the City Botanic Gardens as you make your way back east along the river, where you will find wide paths that snake through the gardened under shady trees. Once out of the Botanic Gardens you will find yourself at the start of the Eagle Street Pier dining precinct, where, if your legs are failing you, is a great place for dinner and drinks, especially Opa Bar + Mezze, Brisbane's best Greek restaurant.
Dinner
Keep heading towards the Story Bridge, where you started the day. Underneath you will find Howard Smith Wharves , which offers great river front dining options. There is Felons Brewing Co for a pub style meal or Mr Percival's where you can indulge your European summer with a cocktail in hand and pizzas on tap. Mr Percival's is my personal favourite and the perfect way to end a huge day out in Brisbane!
